Remarks: |
On October 18, 1974 work
commenced on this track. A single Gibson 12-string acoustic guitar was
recorded using a very short and slightly detuned tape delay. This
process was repeated a second time to "double-track" the 12-string
guitar. All other instrumentation on the initial session was performed
on a Moog Sonic V synthesizer which was used to emulate the sound of
flutes, strings and bass. Virtually all of the sound effects heard on this track were created by producer Terry Brown using a combination of tape delays, plate echoes, and recording with the tape spooling backwards on the tape deck or varying the tape speed during recording. The simulated vocal was produced by patching the sound of the Moog Sonic V synthesizer though an artificial larynx which Dee used to silently "mouth" the lyrics as John simultaneously played the corresponding melody on the synthesizer. The original 16-track recording was transferred to 24-track tape format on March 27, 1975 at Sounds Interchange studios in Toronto, Canada. |
