Remarks:
|
There are three different
versions of this track. Version #1 was completed in February 1977 and
appears on the previously unreleased "orchestral" mixes of the "Hope"
album . A second version (with several changes added) was completed in
May 1977 and appears on the released version of the album. On October
20, 1977 a third version of this track was remixed at Sounds
Interchange Studios (Toronto) for the vinyl single release.
In keeping with the nautical theme of this track, producer Terry Brown
borrowed an authentic ship's bell from a local yacht club and it was
overdubbed onto the 24-track master tape at Toronto Sound Studios in
early 1977.
The trumpets and flugel horn on this track were performed by Guido
Basso, a prominent jazz musician and prolific session player from
Toronto. (Guido also had played trumpet on "Sub Rosa Subway" in 1973).
The orchestral strings which can be heard in the opening of this track
were recorded at Olympic Sound Studios (London) in January 1977. All
other string parts were recorded at Toronto Sound Studios in February
1977 and were performed by a viola duet.
