Remarks:
|
In late November 1978 a basic
rhythm section consisting of Polymoog synthesizer, bass guitar, and
drums was recorded "live" off the floor by Mike Jones (chief engineer
at "Sounds Interchange" studios) under the supervision of producer
Terry Brown. Some synthesizer overdubs were added during subsequent
recording sessions, but work on this initial version of the track was
abruptly discontinued prior to its completion.
On a separate tape a different recording of this track was commenced in
late February 1978. In place of the conventional "click" track, which
had been used on the previous recording, the rhythmic basis for this
latter recording was supplied by a programmable electronic drum set
which Dee had assembled from a kit acquired (at a total cost of US
$83.70) from a company in Oklahoma City, U.S.A.
Real drums and bass guitar (Hofner violin) were later overdubbed onto
the 24-track master tape. The electronic drums remained an integral
part of the finished recording.
An out-take mix of this track featuring an alternate "megaphone" vocal
has been digitally re-mastered for inclusion on the Klaatu Compact Disc
entitled, "Sunset", which is scheduled for release by Bullseye Records
of Canada in May 2005.
