Remarks:
|
A "demo" recording of this song
was made at Toronto Sound Studios on 18-Aug-1977 with John playing
keyboards and Dee filling in as sound engineer. The instrumentation
used for this demo included piano with several tracks of overdubbed
mellotron (i.e. strings and flutes). The piano track recorded during
this "informal" session would later be used as the basis for the master
recording.
After a hiatus of several months, work on this track was resumed at
"Sounds Interchange" studios in early April 1978 with the overdubbing
of drums and bass guitar onto the 24-track "demo" recording in sync
with the existing piano track. Later that same month, a large string
section (arranged and conducted by Eric Robertson of Toronto) was
recorded "live" off the floor onto 8 separate tracks of the 24-track
tape.
Final vocals and finishing touches were added in May 1978 during
sessions held at producer Terry Brown's residence utilizing the
services of a mobile recording facility.
The "rain" effect audible at the beginning of this track was produced
by recording the sound of a nozzled garden hose spraying water into a
partially filled swimming pool.
