Remarks:

The basic premise for this track
came about by chance during the recording of Klaatu's debut single
("Hanus of Uranus") in early 1973. While preparing to listen to a rough
mix of "Hanus..", John W. inadvertently threaded the tape back-to-front
("tails out") on his home tape recorder. As the tape played "backwards"
the resultant vocal gibberish seemed to phonetically emulate real words
and phrases. John transcribed these "backwards" lyrics for the entire
song and at the next recording session he demonstrated his findings to
Dee Long and producer Terry Brown. Despite unanimous enthusiasm for the
concept, it would not resurface again until Klaatu's third album.
Commencing on April 4, 1978 a mobile recording studio was engaged to
facilitate the completion of the "Sir Army Suit" album. During the
first week of recording, Dee Long and Terry Draper collaborated to
develop an instrumental backing track around the "backwards" vocal that
had been lifted from the 1973 recording of "Hanus of Uranus". After
many hours of experimentation, a musical arrangement emerged that
differred radically from that of the original 1973 recording. This new
recording ("Silly Boys") possessed a more abstract style consistent
with the bizarre lyrical content and unorthodox vocal track which had
been derived from playing the "Hanus of Uranus" tape in reverse
direction.
