Remarks:
The basic bed tracks for this song were recorded on March 25, 1981 and consisted of a Polymoog synthesizer keyboard (configured to emulate the sound of a harpsichord) accompanied by an electronic drum simulator (used as a reference click track).

A 1980 demo version of this song featured a guitar solo (performed by Dee Long) that was substantially similar to the one that would ultimately appear on the finished master recording. Notably absent from this demo recording are the "chorus" sections of the song, which were added later during a writing session at John's home studio.

The following musicians made guest appearances on this master recording:

- the orchestral strings were perfomed by Adele, Paul and Dick Armin (with arrangements written by Jack Lenz);

- the brass section was supplied by Paul Irvine doubling on trumpet and trombone; and

- the tympani and chimes were performed by percussionist, Lorne Grossman.
